Russian Legion

In a surprise move for the 2008 season of tournament paintball, the NXL force of domination, Russian Legion, has announced both their leave of Smart Parts, and their new relationship with Bob Long.

Veterans will remember that Bob Long was an original sponsor of Russian Legion when they were up and coming in the PSP. Take a look around and you may even be able to find a custom Russian Legion Intimidator.

This new move has come as a shock to many who were betting on a larger manufacturer such as Planet Eclipse or Dye to pick up the Russian sensations. However, insider word is that Legion was always happy with Bob Long, but moved to Smart Parts due to a substantial sponsorship. Any upcoming team would take this as a boost in order to climb higher in the ranks of the NXL.

Although the exact marker hasn’t been released, the press release states that a custom version is to be expected. Knowing Bob Long, the design will feature an aggressive and flamboyant design that is guaranteed to attract attention on the field. Russian Legion Vice or Marq perhaps?

The translated press release (source here) reads as follows:

A reliable news source reported that the team Russian Legion is going to use Bob Long Markers in 2008.

The sponsoring contract is in the signing process.

Also, It had become known that there will be a special marker coming out in 2008 designed for the team members only that will have particular construction features.

Look for details on this special marker in the upcoming news!

Please note: there are many copies of this floating around on various internet locations and websites. Many of the translations were performed through the use of online translators. maxrof dot com has an actual human translated copy of the press release to preserve the original message as best as humanly possible.

2008 Virtue Paintball T-Shirts

Fashion in the paintball industry is one of the hottest upcoming trends. Designers and labels are popping up left and right everyday with new swag designed solely for the ballers.

Manufacturers have noticed this and have begun to release their own “edgy” line of clothing. Virtue Paintball is no exception.

Known exclusively for their upgrade boards, Virtue is branching into the fashion market with their aggressive designs that are related to sponsored players and teams. The new lineup features gear tagged with Dye poster boy Oliver Lang, and NXL Stars Russian Legion. Other designs are in Virtue standard style (in this case playing heavily from internet memes), and are available in a few choice of colours.

Custom Products CP Air Air System

Paintball is an ever evolving sport. There was once a time where companies focused solely on an individual market for their products. However with the advancement of time, technology, and capabilities in manufacturing, companies that were once monotone in their product focus have been given the opportunity to expand their product line to multiple areas.

Custom products is heavily known for their high pressure regulators and marker accessories, however one of their recent jumps in R&D has been with the introduction of their own carbon fiber air systems. With recent big name teams switching over to Custom Product’s air source from competitors, you may wonder how this new kid of the block fares in performance. Luckily, we received one in for testing and have a relatively positive outlook on the product.

From Custom Products website:

It’s here!!! The air system you’ve been waiting for. The CP Air combines everything you’ve been looking for in an air system and puts it together in one ultra light package.

Super High Flow Rate, Fast Recharge rate, Superior reliability and on top of everything it’s rebuild-able. All of this in a design that is nearly ½lb. lighter than the competition. What more could you look for in an air system?

The CP Air Combines it all and then backs it with the commitment to be at every PSP and NPPL to offer full factory support when you need it most. We took the same reliable technology that you have come to know and trust from the CP In-Line Regulator and created the ultimate bottle regulator.

One of the first things noticeable about the CP air system is its compact size. Tank manufacturers are discovering techniques in the construction of bottles that have allowed them to shrink the size of the bottles to a more comfortable and compact size than previous versions. The 48ci version that we received allowed for an impressively tight gun profile. The specifications for length are:

  • 48ci / 4500psi = 10 inch overall length
  • 68ci / 4500psi = 11 inch overall length

The next noticeable thing that users would like to know is the weight. The CP air system is relatively light. As with the size, weight has also been an issue that has been addressed by new manufacturing techniques. With these capabilities, CP has shaved off 1/2lb. more of weight than certain competitors and brought the final weights (with regulators) down to:

  • 48ci / 4500psi = 1.99lbs.
  • 68ci / 4500psi = 2.63lbs.

Performance wise, the CP air performed without flaw. We combined it with a test model 2008 Ego for a day of standard Xball practice. The low pressure version that we received had no hiccups or shoot down that can be common with low pressure tanks. The tank’s small size allowed for a smaller profile, and light weight made handling the marker setup easier. Shots per fill are not an issue with a review here due to different markers having much different efficiency.

One of the nicer things about the CP air system is that Custom Products issues a five year warranty on all its tanks, with a lifetime warranty on the air regulator. Also, Custom Products offers full service and technical support for their products at every PSP and NPPL event. If you ever have a problem with your tank, you can rest assured that you will be taken care of by their excellent customer support.

The Custom Products “CP Air” Air System is available from Compulsive Paintball’s online store today for $209.95.

Pros

  • Light weight
  • Small profile
  • High quality regulator provides consistent output
  • Five year bottle warranty and lifetime regulator warranty

Cons

  • High price

PSP Updates Rate Of Fire Rules

In an effort to enhance game play, individual player skill, and viewing ability, The PSP has announced a rule change on the rate of fire of paintball markers used in the league. The decision comes after much speculation and rumors about the new direction that the PSP is trying to take.

The official release is a change from fifteen balls per second down to 13.33 balls per second.

Reasons for this are currently unconfirmed, but many insiders in the industry are leaking information regarding the reasons behind the change. Some individuals have claimed this to be tied to the format changes and paint updates that were announced earlier on in the year, while others are stating that it is simply:

  1. Helpful to the refs for speed measurements. 75ms between shots is a relatively easy number to remember.
  2. Designed to enhance game watch ability. Slower guns make for bigger team moves and a larger sense of excitement.

The entire press release reads as follows:

PSP Rate of Fire Change for 2008 Season

Paintball Sports Promotions has updated the rules concerning markers and rate of fire for the 2008 Season. Beginning today, the rules will be as follows:

7.3.6. A marker may fire at a maximum rate of 13.33 balls per second.

7.3.6.1. A player on the field of play during a game whose marker shoots more than one paintball within 65 milliseconds will receive a gross penalty.
7.3.6.2. A player on the field of play during a game whose marker shoots more than one paintball within 70 milliseconds will be assessed a major penalty.
7.3.6.3. A player on the field of play during a game whose marker shoots more than one paintball within 75 milliseconds* will be assessed a minor penalty.

* A measurement of 75.0 milliseconds or higher is acceptable. A measurement of 74.9 milliseconds or lower will be penalized.

We will be updating our rule book on the PSP website shortly. For more information about PSP rules and the upcoming season stay tuned to www.pspevents.com.
